Our Story

My tryst with baking commenced at age 9 with the innocent gift of a gas oven. Apparently, I fared very well in an exam in school and the reward, as is the case with most things in my home in Assam in India had to do with food and cooking! Starting out with my first pound cake, I experimented with different products over the years whenever I came home for my vacations from boarding school.

Today, my yellowed and tattered recipe book has traveled to many places with me. It has been a loyal companion through the mad charm of Delhi University life, the abiding clockwork of Mumbai, the beauty of motherhood in New York, the passion and precision of Paris and the impeccable efficiency of Hong Kong. Along the way I have learnt, borrowed, scribbled and dreamt up batter secrets that have transformed into delicious, joyous cakes.

I am essentially a self-taught baker, who believes in the power of passion as a driving force. Aided with baking workshops at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, my journey of discovery continues when I travel to different places and seek out local bakeries and products. I also constantly experiment with new baking techniques and bring them back to you.

I now live in Hong Kong with my husband and teenage daughters, who are always ready to sample and critique my new baking experiments. After having successfully run Babycakes in Mumbai, India for 15 years while raising my two girls, I now continue to run the brand in Hong Kong since 2019 from my Wan Chai kitchen. It is here that I bake for this city that I have grown to love and adore! I also host multiple baking classes here to share my joys of baking with couples on dates, corporate teams that believe in team building and children who just wish to get their hands dirty.
